I am Dejan Skeledzija, an online publisher with over 24 years of experience. I have lived in Valencia, Spain, for the past 15 years.
I was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which has all four seasons: incredibly foggy and rainy falls, winters, and springs. However, these seasonal changes had a profound impact on my mood, even leading to depression.
A chance visit to Spain’s Gandia just before Christmas marked a turning point in my life. The sunny, pleasant, and beautiful weather was a welcome contrast to the gloom of Slovenia, and I knew instantly that I wanted to live there.
Years later, my dream became a reality. I boldly moved from Slovenia to Valencia with a car, leaving the familiar for the unknown behind.
If I could help tourists who visit Spain, this would be invaluable for many of them.
In Slovenia, I had an easy and secure government job I loved. Friends and family had much to say about leaving such a blessed position and everything else behind.
Fortunately, Spanish friends treated me like a family and helped me navigate the new culture and language. With my engineering diploma and extensive experience as an online publisher, I was well-equipped to start a new chapter in my life.
As I continue to build my life in Spain, I carry lessons from my journey. I know that with determination and resilience, anything is possible. My story is a beacon of hope for those who dare to dream and chase their aspirations.
For years, I have been thinking about how to use my experience living in Spain to help others. When travelling to new countries, I always feel like my first day in Spain: small, vulnerable, and lost.
The website FH Mushroom – Fabulous Holidays in Spain was born to help tourists with my expat insider views and tips. Where to turn, what to see, and where to stay to get most of the holidays in Spain.
Preparation for travel can be highly time-consuming because, in many cases, there is no one significant, reliable source available. When I travel, even inside Spain, I spend weeks preparing for the trip – and while it’s fun it’s also tedious.
FH Mushroom is dedicated to providing complete, real-world, honest guides and tips on places to visit and stay in Spain.
